Commandline tool for Spotify

Spicetify is a free music program by a group of indie developers over at Spicetify. It is a command line-based utility made for the official Spotify client for PC. With it, users can customize the player to their liking and change things like UI themes and other components.

Compared to the official Spotify app, Spicetify offers more versatility and control over various aspects of the player not allowable in the original version. Aside from the visual change that they can make, advanced users can also add extensions and custom parameters to help fine-tune the listening experience to their liking.

A new look and then some

Spotify is arguably the most popular and widely used music-streaming platform right now. It is home to millions of songs and albums from artists from all over the globe. Its official desktop client is pretty stable and easy to use. However, if you're the type of user who likes customization options, you'll find it lacking, and this is where the tantalizingly named Spicetify comes in.

It is a command line utility that lets you customize and make changes to the official desktop client. You can create custom UI themes via the color.ini file and edit the layout through the user.css file located in the program folder. Alternatively, you can also inject a CSS file easily if you have your own. There are many possible combinations to come up with.

The tool also supports extensions like pop-up lyrics, a full app display view, assignable keyboard shortcuts, and many others. There is even integration with Reddit for custom feeds, though this functionality is limited right now. There is a slight learning curve to everything since you'll mostly be relying on your command line. Thankfully, there's a thorough guide on the developer's website to help you out.

Swiss-army tool for Spotify lovers

The official desktop client for Spotify works as it should, and there's nothing really wrong with it. However, there will be some who will want more customization options, and Spicetify fills that need quite nicely. Whether visual or functional, it allows for some extensive ways to make the player work as you want it. Just be prepared to learn it first. Recommended.

In Softonic we scan all the files hosted on our platform to assess and avoid any potential harm for your device. Our team performs checks each time a new file is uploaded and periodically reviews files to confirm or update their status. This comprehensive process allows us to set a status for any downloadable file as follows:

Clean

It’s extremely likely that this software program is clean.

What does this mean?

We have scanned the file and URLs associated with this software program in more than 50 of the world's leading antivirus services; no possible threat has been detected.

Warning

This software program is potentially malicious or may contain unwanted bundled software.

Why is the software program still available?

Based on our scan system, we have determined that these flags are possibly false positives.

What is a false positive?

It means a benign program is wrongfully flagged as malicious due to an overly broad detection signature or algorithm used in an antivirus program.

We’d like to highlight that from time to time, we may miss a potentially malicious software program. To continue promising you a malware-free catalog of programs and apps, our team has integrated a Report Software feature in every catalog page that loops your feedback back to us.

Flag any particular issues you may encounter and Softonic will address those concerns as soon as possible.
